How Long Does Rubio Monocoat Last?

Rubio Monocoat oils are easy to maintain.

Maintenance following our recommendations does not require sanding and, of course, maintains the surface so it will not need to be completely re-sanded and refinished.

The best way to explain this is to use a comparison to a beautiful piece of leather furniture. Leather can also last a long time with the right care and maintenance. From time to time, it needs to be reoiled (nourished) with a leather conditioning oil. When this is not done, leather will dry out, get brittle, and lose its natural beauty and appeal.

The type of care and maintenance required by a Rubio Monocoat oiled wood surface depends on if it is an interior application or if it is an exterior application.

Interior

Oil Plus 2C is our interior wood finish of choice. Its unique technology allows for simple care and maintenance.

Cleaning

In general, interior oiled wood surfaces are vaccumed or dusted periodically. If needed, a water-dampened cloth or mop may be used to wipe down the surface.

If a little more cleaning power is required then, Surface Care Spray, which is made from Soap, is the only Rubio Monocoat recommended cleaner.

Important

Most common household cleaners attack oil, and can compromise the finished surface.

Maintenance

After a time, the wood surface may start to look dry and thirsty. When this occurs, it is recommended to renew the wood surface with an application of Renew. Renew will restore the initial protection and finish of the surface. Frequency is dependent on use, climeate, and a few other variables.

When this is done as needed, you can expect a long-lasting finish that only gets prettier over time.

If you follow the process described above, re-sanding a Rubio Monocoat oiled wood surface is typically not required unless one desires to change the colour and décor.

Exterior

WoodCream protected oiled wood surfaces will require maintenance and attention more often than interior surfaces due to exterior exposure harshness. The georgraphical location will dictate the frequency of reoiling!

In general, a horizontal exposed wood substrate will weather approximately four times faster than a vertical exposed substrate in the same location.

Southern and Western exposures gets 2-3 times the weather exposure compared to the Eastern and Northern exposures. Higher elavation will weater more rapidly compared to lower elevation levels.

Cleaning

General cleaning is done using Exterior Soap, which additionally nourishes the surface while it is being cleaned.

Maintenance

When maintenance is necessary, simply clean the surface and reapply WoodCream, no sanding necessary.

Conclusion

Now you know how long Rubio Monocoat will last with proper care! The simple and easy care and maintenance process means the protection and beauty of a Rubio Monocoat finished wood surface can last for an indefinite amount at a time.
